Warehouse Operatives play an important role in the efficient functioning of a warehouse. Their daily tasks involve the efficient storage, retrieval, and distribution of products.
Receiving of goods is the first step, where the operatives receive and unload goods from delivery trucks. The goods are then checked to ensure that they match the order. After that, they typically need to scan the goods and enter the details into the computer system.
Moving and storing of goods is the next task. The operatives need to move the goods to the designated areas in the warehouse. They also need to ensure that the goods are properly labelled and stored in a safe and organised manner.
Warehouse Operatives also carry out order picking duties. They need to pick the right items as per the customer’s order and pack them for delivery. Then, they load the goods onto delivery vehicles and ensure that the goods are secured and safe for the journey.
Warehouse operatives are typically employed by companies that need to store and distribute goods, such as supermarkets, manufacturers, wholesalers, retailers, and logistics companies. They are also employed by warehouse operations, such as storage and distribution centres, and by third-party logistics companies.
Warehouse Operatives generally start out as warehouse helpers or general warehouse workers. They may be responsible for carrying out basic duties such as stocking shelves, packing and unpacking orders, and helping with inventory management. As they gain more experience and knowledge of warehouse operations, they may be promoted to a warehouse supervisor. Warehouse supervisors oversee the daily operations of the warehouse, including the scheduling of staff and the distribution of products. With further experience and education, Warehouse Operatives can eventually become warehouse managers, who are responsible for the overall operation of the warehouse. They may be tasked with creating efficient systems to maximise efficiency and productivity, while ensuring that all safety regulations are being followed.
